The profound power of deep relaxation
To all women yearning for rest and renewal
I see you. I know how much you hold, and I want to remind you that ease is possible. The path to ease, flow and renewal is manifold. What I want to share today is the transformative effect deep relaxation can have on your body, mind and soul.
You might be familiar with your body’s tendency to hold onto physical and emotional stress—tight shoulders, a clenched jaw, or a stomach twisted into knots. Maybe you’re great at self-care, taking regular walks, spending time in nature, exercising, and eating well, yet you seldom feel truly relaxed or deeply rested, even after a full night’s sleep
This is where the art of deep relaxation comes in.
What is deep relaxation?
True relaxation isn’t just about resting—it’s about allowing your body to shift out of stress mode and into a state of deep renewal. When you experience this, something shifts. Your breath slows, your muscles soften, and your whole system begins to recalibrate.
We experience life on multiple levels—physically, mentally and emotionally. We carry memories and tensions across all these planes, each one influencing and sometimes amplifying the others.
Deep relaxation unwinds these layers of tension, allowing us to digest and release what we’ve been holding onto. Sounds simple, right? Just relax!
But we all know that well-meaning advice like "just relax" doesn't always work—because we haven’t been taught how to enter a state of true relaxation.
Can we learn how to relax?
The good news is, yes, we can learn to relax. Relaxation is often referred to as an art, because it’s not something we can simply “do”.
Ancient yogis, using their own bodies and minds as laboratories of experience, discovered ways to guide the mind into letting go—leading the body and mind into a deep state of relaxation that allows for physical, mental, and emotional harmony.
One of the most accessible yogic tools for this is yoga nidra—a deep relaxation meditation practiced while lying down in a comfortable position. It’s blissful, accessible to everyone, and becomes especially transformative when practiced regularly.
And if you’ve ever wanted to meditate but felt too restless or distracted, yoga nidra is a perfect place to start.
How does deep relaxation—yoga nidra—work?
Yoga nidra creates space for your mind to process and integrate life’s experiences, guiding you into a state of being from which deep peace, clarity, and acceptance arise.
It does this by progressively leading you into deeper and deeper states of relaxation. Instead of fighting the mind by trying to make it relax and let go of distractions, yoga nidra works with the mind.
For example:
Imagine you’re lying down, ready to enter a deep state of bliss. But instead of relaxing, you find yourself irritated by noises around you, or your mind won’t stop racing. You wonder, How am I ever going to let go?
Sceptically, you press play on a yoga nidra audio. Instead of forcing yourself to focus or block out distractions, the practice invites you to notice the sounds, sensations, and mental images without resistance. Eventually, your mind becomes tired of tracking them, naturally withdrawing inward. Now, you’re ready to be guided into an even deeper state of calm and presence.
This is just one example of how Yoga Nidra helps you work with your mind instead of fighting it.
Why is deep relaxation important?
Deep relaxation is a balm for the stress, tension, and busyness of contemporary life.
Unlike simply resting on the sofa, watching a movie, or even enjoying a drink with friends, deep relaxation is an experience of complete rest - where the body and nervous system are freed of tension, and awareness settles into a state of calm and quiet alertness.
In fact, yoga nidra can be more restful than sleep, since we often carry our physical and mental tensions into sleep itself. With regular practice, yoga nidra trains the mind to reach a state of tranquility and clarity effortlessly.

Many women tell me they feel deeply relaxed and sleep better after a myofascial massage session. This gentle yet powerful therapy helps the nervous system and soft tissues unwind, bringing you into a state of deep rest—much like yoga nidra, with similar benefits.
Rather than working against tension, I support the body’s natural ability to restore balance. When we stop forcing and start listening, the body softens, letting go of what it no longer needs. The result? More ease, freedom of movement, and a deeper sense of well-being.
